long word…

January 31, 2008

Okay, lets just say from the off that I don’t know as many long words as my esteemed sister. therefore I will attempt to refrain from and strenuous and tenuous links from sentence to sentence just so I can facilitate a delusional sense of grandeur which will undoubtedly result in me looking like a goober.

Bon. So as we are in the early stages of this blog I thought I would continue with the tradition of having nothing really to say but ranting about it anyway. first off: the history of blogging.

i thought when i first heard the word ‘blog’ that the person who started blogging managed the creation whilst on the toilet. i did some research earlier and it turns out i was completly wrong…quel surprise! according to “http://www.andreas.com/faq-blog.html” it came from ‘Web – log’ but was shortened to blog… because they thought it would be more fun that way? it is also apparently a useful way to keep your website up to date… shows how much website building i do.

Shall i talk about something a little more interesting? Why is it that you always look more tanned in the bathroom? no… no maybe that isnt such a good topic…

Well rest assured, when i have something to say i will write another post.

I watched PMQs yesterday i must have something to talk about…

oh well

suriphobia?

January 30, 2008

This is a kind shared blog, we all study full time (wow, that sounds more impressive written down) and it’s my first attempt, so be nice! I don’t know what’s expected. My initial impressions of word press is that it seems like most of the blogs are rants about the us presidential election, people ranting about religion or how amazing Ireland apparently is, but it all seems to be a bit less spotty than MySpace…

As a technical note I should say that I’m writing this on my pc (no laughs, please) in a room far too warm considering the nasty letter we received from our energy suppler (whom for legal reasons we cannot name, except to say that they supply gas and are British) about the rise in energy prices.

However I am kind of excited that my Word 2007 has its own blog writing option, so far I’m not a fan of this version, I don’t really see any advantages of it, I find its reliance on icons patronising-I can understand words and drop-down menu’s… But my main reason for hating it is that it’s endnotes option (a standard feature and academic tool) screws up after the 85th endnote, as I found out on my dissertation. for all you I Open Office people out there, yes I do apologise for not having installed Linux yet, in my defence only use Word for its spellchecker, even though google tends to have more luck at guessing my spelling…

on a different note I saw I mouse in our bathroom last night: i would have screamed like a girl, but it was past midnight and all my housemates were asleep, so instead I shook like I’d witnesses something far more traumatic than a small mouse. Perhaps I’m suffering from some form of suriphobia because I couldn’t sleep for a long time afterwards…

i’m going to go and find a torch and search round the house for more mouse holes now, I wonder what size holes those little monsters can squeese themselves into…
